Bio and Artist’s Statement
Although all of the work on this website is recent, I have over 20 years experience in photography and the graphic arts.
I try to capture images that contain a subtextual narrative. I want the viewer to imagine the story underneath the surface, particularly in my abstract images. At the same time, I am trying to explore my interests in the world around me. I am particularly drawn to the conflict between the natural and the man-made. I find myself continuously examining the the Japanese concept of Wabe Sabe - the belief that beauty lies in imperfection.
Ansel Adams once said something to the effect that despite it's realism, every photograph is the artist's interpretation of the scene. It is my intention to make my images strongly reflect my own personal interpretations, and I take advantage off all the tools I can find to manipulate and process my images to best reflect my own unique impressions.
Occasionally in my studies, I find it difficult to capture one single image that reflects the full spectrum of nuances in a given subject, particularly in relation to its underlying narrative. To address this, I often assemble my images as triptych panels - sets of thee images on one canvas (or print) that relate to each other graphically and/or narratively.
This website offers a selection of my fine art images. You may purchase prints of many of my images directly from this site. For signed, limited edition prints, Contact us for more information. To see what I'm up to in the realm of documentary film, visit my website, Differential Films.
